Second-degree murder charge in ‘suspicious’ death in Burnaby crash

BURNABY (NEWS 1130) – A day before Nicole Porciello’s funeral, a 31-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to her death.

Integrated Homicide Investigators say Jan Poepl has been arrested and charged in connection to the death of the 34-year-old woman.

Porciello, who also went by Nicole Hasselmann, died in hospital following a car crash on Barnet Highway on Nov. 16. She was a special education assistant and left behind a 10-year-old son.

Investigators later said the woman’s injuries indicated foul play.

“We recognize that this is a very difficult time for Nicole’s family as they are grieving for her death. And we hope that we are able to provide them with some answers.” Cpl. Frank Jang told NEWS 1130. “They are going through so much right now, arranging the funeral and just grieving for their loss.”

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) — Investigators are looking for answers after a woman was found dead inside a home in Fort Lauderdale Thursday morning.

The investigation started around 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night when police, backed by SWAT, blocked off the intersection of SW Tequesta Street and Charley Avenue to a long driveway leading to the home.

A neighbor says a man and a woman had been living inside the home for some time.

“I actually just saw them yesterday, they were standing outside of the house so they looked fine,” said Diego Gallego. Gallego also says the house is abandoned and has no electricity but the man and woman had been living inside for some time.

He recalled countless nights lightening to their arguments.

“I’ve called police maybe 3-4 times on them because of the fights that they have at 2-3 in the morning. They’re pretty violent.”

Police have not confirmed whether anyone else
