The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man found in the woods near Daisy Street in Batesburg around 9:30 p.m Friday. The body was discovered by sheriff’s office investigators and SLED agents.
No identification has been made and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning in Newberry, S.C. Additional information will be released after the body is identified and the next of kin notified, Coroner Darryl Ables said in a news release.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide of a man found shot to death at Southlawn Cemetery in Aiken on Monday.
According to Aiken County coroner Tim Carlton, the body of James Maxwell was found by a coworker in his living quarters in the back of his office at the cemetery at 4524 Whiskey Road. Maxwell died from multiple gun shot wounds, Carlton reports.
The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Newberry S.C. The sheriff’s and coroner’s offices are conducting the investigation.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating the death of a 25-year-old Aiken man found shot to death this week inside of a Marlboro Street home.
Police responded to 149 Marlboro St. at 10:42 p.m. Thursday, where they found the victim lying in the front room of the home, according to a police report.
Police reported the victim was suffering from a gunshot wound.
Capt. David Turno, with Aiken Public Safety, said investigators have reported the death to be suspicious due to evidence found at the scene.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting Public Safety in the investigation, Turno said.
The Aiken County Coroner’s Office has not released the victim’s name.
