UPDATE: Police make arrest in suspicious death along Rivanna Trail

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — The Albemarle County Police Department says a man has been arrested in connection with a murder near the Rivanna River on Thursday night.

Forty-nine-year-old Allan Ray Via of Charlottesville was arrested Friday night for the death of 24-year-old Cody Jason Cappel.

Police say Cappel was shot multiple times.

His body was found along the trails near the Rivanna River and Peter Jefferson Parkway on Thursday night.

Police say the two men knew each other and were living in tents along the river.

Via is facing charges of second-degree murder and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

He is currently being held the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

Body found along Rivanna Trail

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. — Police are investigating after a man’s body was found along the Rivanna Trail in Albemarle County. The man’s body was discovered Thursday, May 16, at about 8 p.m., along the Rivanna River behind Peter Jefferson Parkway near Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, according to Albemarle Police.

“The victim has not been identified at this time,” an Albemarle Police spokesperson said. “This is being investigated as a suspicious death.”

Police asked anyone who was on the Rivanna Trail Thursday to call Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000.

“There is no active threat to the community at this time,” police said.

The Rivanna Trail is a 20-mile hiking trail surrounding Charlottesville.

“It is open for hiking and jogging from dawn to dusk,” according to VisitCharlottesville.com.

Woman Found Dead Along 6th Street: Austin Police

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A woman was found dead early Saturday along 6th Street, and police are trying to figure out how she may have died.

A police officer briefing reporters said the woman was found with injuries throughout her body as they responded to the 100 block of East 6th Street at around 4:15 a.m. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other details were shared, including the woman’s age, race or ethnicity. The officer at the press conference said police are trying to secure any available surveillance camera footage that may have captured the incident prior to the woman’s death.
A reporter asked if perhaps the woman had leapt from a building, but the officer declined to provide specifics as is customary during the early phases of a police investigation.

Authorities ask for help identifying girl’s body found dumped in bag along California trail

LOS ANGELES – Authorities have asked for the public’s help in identifying the body of a girl found along a Hacienda Heights equestrian trail on Tuesday.

There are no known motives in the case, which investigators are handling as a suspicious death, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Scott Hoglund said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives released a sketch of the victim—described as a black girl, possibly 8 to 13 years old, about 4 feet 5 inches, about 55 pounds, and “skinny,” according to KTLA.

Investigators said the girl was wearing a pink shirt with the words “Future Princess Hero,” along with blue leggings with pandas on them, and no shoes.

“We don’t have any leads. We don’t have any idea who this child is,” Lt. Scott Hoglund said.

SAPD: ‘Suspicious death’ along Highway 90 under investigation

SAN ANTONIO — Officials are investigating a suspicious death along westbound Highway 90 on the southwest side Sunday.

According to police, a Good Samaritan noticed a silver Dodge parked on the right shoulder of the highway just after the intersection of I-35 and Highway 90. An unidentified woman was found dead in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Police said she was pronounced dead just after 2 p.m.

The San Antonio Police Department Homicide Unit is investigating it as a “suspicious death.”

They’re waiting on Medical Examiner to make a ruling on the official cause of death.

Man charged with homicide after body found along West Pensacola Street

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Neighbors along West Pensacola Street are upset over the horrific details surrounding a murder on Tuesday.

Little Daniel Owens, 41, has been charged with killing a woman and burning her body. We’re told Owens and the victim lived together off of West Pensacola Street in Tallahassee.

Owens is also being charged with abusing the dead body. It is not clear whether the woman died from injuries sustained during the fire or if she was killed beforehand.

“It takes a certain type of person to be able to burn another person’s body,” one Tallahassee resident who wished to remain anonymous stated.

Those who knew the victim were shattered when they found out.

“I just saw her walking the other day. I wish I would’ve spoken to her,” Jermaine, a Tallahassee native, said. “It really hurts

Police Are Investigating Suspicious Death Along Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in Cheshire

Police are investigating a suspicious death in Cheshire and the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail is closed.

Cheshire police said they received a call just after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday about suspicious items in the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail in the area between School House Road and West Johnson Avenue. Responding officers found a female’s body around 70 feet off the trail, down an embankment. She has not been identified at this time.

They called the State Police Major Crimes Division in to assist in the investigation.

Police have not released any additional information.

The trail was closed the the public for the investigation but hs since reopened.

Body found along Keewhadin Road identified

The body of a man found dead in a Fort Gratiot Township ditch has been identified. According to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, 28 year old Kevin Anderson Junior from Port Huron was shot and then left alongside Keewahdin Road during the early morning hours Sunday. Authorities say nearby residents  heard a noise shortly before 4am, believed to be the sound of a car striking a deer. Witnesses saw a car parked along Keewhadin Road perform a u-turn and then leave westbound. Anderson’s body was discovered a few hours later in a nearby ditch. He  is believed to have been shot alongside the road and his body dragged into the ditch.  Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is asked to contact Detective Haley Bonner at (810) 987-1728. An autopsy is scheduled for this afternoon.
