Authorities investigating suspicious death of UGA professor – News

Authorities on Monday were investigating the weekend death of a University of Georgia professor at the home of a Milledgeville man who fatally shot himself.

According to an incident report from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year-old Marianne Shockley of Madison and her boyfriend were at the home of 69-year-old Clark Heindel, who called 911 at about 1 a.m. Sunday to report that Shockley had been found unresponsive in a hot tub on the deck of his pool.

Shockley was an entomology professor with UGA’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, according to a university spokesperson.

When deputies arrived they found Heindel “and another nude male” performing CPR on Shockley’s unclothed body on the pool deck, according to the report.

A deputy noted in the report that Shockley was bleeding heavily from her head.

The other nude male was identified in the sheriff’s report as Shockley’s boyfriend, Marcus Lillard.

Authorities Connect Man Involved in Turlock Crash to Woman’s Body Found 2 Hours Earlier Near Oakdale

STANISLAUS COUNTY — People living on Rodden Road just outside of the Oakdale city limits, describe waking up to police cars and crime scene tape.

They say they were shocked to see a woman’s body lying across the street from their homes Saturday morning.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the scene around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of a car hitting a pedestrian.

As deputies continued to investigate the death, which they called suspicious — nearly two hours later – officials responded to an unrelated car crash on Highway 99 in Turlock – where they found 21-year-old Scott Williams.

“Inside his vehicle, they found a crime scene – it appeared someone had been shot inside the vehicle,” said Sgt. Joshua Clayton with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they found evidence tying Williams to the homicide of the woman found dead on Rodden Road.

Authorities tight-lipped on Hampton homicide

HAMPTON A homicide at 87 Brown Ave. with few known details has beach residents curious what happened to 34-year-old Juan Astacio Saturday inside apartment No. 2.

Geno Ranaldi, who co-owns the apartment building, said he received a series of text messages from different tenants the night of April 20 wondering why law enforcement had swarmed their complex across from the Hampton Police Department. He got a call from police Sunday telling him a man had died, the death ruled a homicide the next day.

“This is definitely the worst thing that has happened to us,” said Ranaldi, whose company Hampton Sunset Development, LLC, bought the complex in 2012. “We try to do everything we can to provide safe housing for all. We’re incredibly saddened and disappointed.”

Authorities identify person of interest in Laconia homicide investigation

Investigators identified a person of interest in a homicide investigation in Laconia early Wednesday.

The Attorney General’s Office said Hassan Sapry, 21 of Laconia, is a person of interest in the death of Wilfred Guzman, Sr. on Friday.

Investigators said Sapry was last seen on Pleasant Street Tuesday afternoon and is believed to be on foot. He should be considered armed and dangerous, officials said.

Laconia police confirmed to News 9 that a search warrant was executed on Pleasant Street in connection with Guzman’s death.

Guzman’s death was ruled a homicide on Saturday.

A News 9 crew on scene early Wednesday morning saw the state major crime unit van parked on Pleasant Street, with police tape surrounding a house and multiple police officers on the scene.

The Attorney General’s Office told News 9 the investigation into Guzman’s death was ongoing.

Police are investigating after the body of a Conyers woman was found inside a Rockdale County home on Friday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies said the death of Loretta Goolsby, 58, “appears suspicious.”

Goolsby’s body was found inside a home in the 1400 block of Lester Road by deputies responding to a missing person call. A spokeswoman for the Rockdale County sheriff’s office could not confirm any further details about how the body was found or the manner of the woman’s death.

“We are waiting on autopsy results from the GBI,” spokeswoman Yolande Lovingood-Moore told AJC.com. “The Criminal Investigations Division continues to work to get answers and will provide updates as they come available.”

Authorities investigate ‘suspicious death’ in Oceano

Authorities are investigating a suspicious death in Oceano on Saturday night.

According to San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, a call came into dispatch at 10:37 p.m.

Few details were available as of 11:30 p.m. The investigation is on Front Street.

The sergeant on duty said there is “no danger to the public and no outstanding subjects.”

This is the third suspicious death investigation in Oceano this year.

Authorities investigating a ‘suspicious death’ in Lakewood apartment

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating what they say was a suspicious death in Lakewood on Friday.

A woman’s body was found in an apartment after she had been reported missing, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Lakewood police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said the woman was found in an apartment on Monmouth Avenue.

Lakewood police and the prosecutor’s office declined to release any additional information on the investigation.
