Authorities investigating a ‘suspicious death’ in Lakewood apartment

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating what they say was a suspicious death in Lakewood on Friday.

A woman’s body was found in an apartment after she had been reported missing, according to a statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Lakewood police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said the woman was found in an apartment on Monmouth Avenue.

Lakewood police and the prosecutor’s office declined to release any additional information on the investigation.

‘Suspicious death’ under investigation in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD — Police are investigating a “suspicious death” that was reported Friday morning.

Lakewood police confirmed the suspicious death took place inside a Monmouth Avenue apartment but disclosed no additional details.

Unnamed law enforcement sources told The Lakewood Scoop the deceased was a 40-year-old woman.

Pictures posted by the Scoop show yellow tape in the parking lot of the building where the apartment is located and vehicles from Lakewood police,  the Ocean County Sheriff Department’s Department and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Monmouth Avenue runs north/south through downtown Lakewood.

Suspicious Death Ruled Homicide In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, OH — The death of Daniel Dolan, 70, has been officially ruled a homicide by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. Dolan was found dead in his Robinwood Avenue home on Monday morning. Police initially ruled the death “suspicious.”

Lakewood Police told Patch the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.

Officers were sent to the home on Robinwood at about 10:50 a.m. on Monday to perform a welfare check. The caller, one of Donlan’s neighbor, said they had not seen or been able to get in contact with Donlan for several days. Police arrived, got into Donlan’s home and found him dead.

It’s unclear how long Donlan was dead in the house. The neighbor who called to request a welfare check said he had knocked on the 70-year-old’s door several times throughout the weekend but had gotten no answer.

Lakewood police investigate suspicious death | cleveland.com

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Lakewood police are investigating the suspicious death of a man at his Madison Avenue home.

Police found Maurice Goins, 53, dead around 12:45 p.m. Sunday in his apartment at Madison Gardens, a complex located on Madison Avenue about two blocks west of West 117th Street, according to Lakewood police.

A caller asked Lakewood police to check on Goins after they did not see him or hear from him in a week, Lakewood police dispatch logs say.  

Police arrived and found Goins body, according to a news release.

Police dispatch logs categorize the incident as a “homicide,” but the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office will make a final ruling on Goins’ cause of death, police say.

Lakewood police have not said if they’ve arrested anyone in connection with the incident. It remains under investigation.
