Homicide: Body found in woods in NW Ocala

The man, in his 60s, lived in a tent in the woods.

Ocala police officers are investigating the suspicious death of a man found in a densely wooded area off a busy roadway in the northwest part of town on Thursday.

A few hours into their investigation, police officials on scene identified the deceased found in a tent as Roland Lanctot. Lanctot was 61.

Detectives said Lanctot’s sister went to the police department earlier in the day to report her brother missing. She said she tried calling him, but he did not answer and was worried about him. Not hearing from him, she went to the police department.

The woman later went to the 3300 block of Northwest Blitchton Road, where her brother lived in a tent in a heavily wooded area. Officers were called to the scene when the woman could not wake her brother. Detectives said the body was clothed

Family suspects murder, $5,000 reward offered in Ocala couple’s suspicious deaths


MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Marion County Sheriff’s Office detectives are offering a reward for information about a couple who died in July after their home burned to the ground under suspicious circumstances.

It took six months for detectives to positively identify the couple, Robert Cooper and Ariel Prim, through DNA because their bodies were so badly burned.

Marion deputies investigating ‘suspicious’ death of 63-year-old man found in Ocala Ridge

Marion County deputies are investigating the death of a 63-year-old man, who was found dead on Saturday in the Ocala Ridge subdivision.

Deputies responded to the 5300 block of Northwest 17th Street around 2 p.m. and discovered the remains of Melvin Thompkins, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Lauren Lettelier.

It is unknown how Thompkins died but “his death is being investigated as suspicious,” Lettelier said.

Anyone with information about Thompkins’ death is asked to contact Detective Travis O’Cull at 352-369-6805 or Crimestoppers of Marion County at 353-368-STOP.

Marion County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a suspicious death in the case of a woman whose body was found at an RV park on Monday. They have charged a woman connected to the case with providing false information to law enforcement.

According to authorities, the body of Lisa O’Rouke Jeffrey was found inside her RV home at the Holiday Trav-L-Park RV Resort at 4001 W. State Road 40, Ocala, around 11:30 a.m. on Monday. They would not give any specifics, but said the death was suspicious and the investigation is ongoing.

Detectives said the last time anyone heard from Jeffrey was on Nov. 5, her 48th birthday. She was reported missing to the Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 27 by a family member.

Investigators make arrest in suspicious death – Ocala.com

Charles Willoughby is accused of murdering Mohammad H. Barak on July 6.

OCALA — A Silver Springs man already in custody on unrelated charges was re-arrested and charged Wednesday with shooting a man to death last month.

In July, Mohammad H. Barak, 41, known as “Wheels,” was found dead inside a home in the 10400 block of Southwest 45th Avenue in the neighborhood known as Sun Valley. Detectives named Charles James Willoughby, 32, as a suspect and, on Wednesday, charged him with the homicide.

“I want to thank Detective Bradley Bartlett, the men and women of the Major Crimes Unit and prosecutors at the State Attorney’s Office for their hard work and countless hours spent investigating this case,” said Lt. Claude McQuaig, a Major Crimes Unit supervisor.
