Sheriff: Estranged Husband a Person of Interest in Suspicious Death

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. — The case of a missing woman in Del Norte County has taken on new dimensions after the discovery of an as-yet unidentified body at her home. The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office (DNSO) is now seeking her estranged husband for questioning.

The grandmother of 31-year-old Emiley Hughes reported her missing on February 1 after saying that she had not heard from Hughes since around December 23.

DNSO said that they entered Hughes into the missing persons system and created a flyer at the time, sending it to other local agencies and distributing it on social media.

As the investigation began, DNSO said that they were contacted by Hughes’ mother Rawnda, who corroborated the grandmother’s account. But the next day, Rawnda called back and indicated that she had heard from Hughes, who was “alive and well.”

Siskiyou Sheriff Calls Suspicious Death a Homicide

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. – Autopsy results from the Siskiyou County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office show the man found deceased at the bottom of an embankment northwest of Weed on Thursday was murdered.

The body was found approximately 11:15 a.m. on Thursday near North Old Stage Road and Eddy Creek Road by a utility worker.

The man who was found dead has been identified as 31-year-old Hunter Sims. According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office, Sims is a resident of Texas.

A vehicle that is linked to the victim has been found near the scene and is being examined by investigators.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU), The North State Major Investigation Team (NSMIT), and a local Siskiyou Unified Major Investigation Team (SUMIT) are working together to investigate the homicide. The California Department of Justice ‘s Bureau of Investigations-led drug task forces are also assisting the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office with their follow-up investigation.

Updated: Sheriff seeking information on potential witness in suspicious death case – A

Update posted Feb. 1, 6:45 a.m.

–The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public in locating a possible witness in the homicide investigation of 90-year-old Lawrence Bross.

On Jan. 24, the body of Bross was discovered inside his home in the 1400 block of Strand Way in Oceano.

Detectives are trying to locate a person described as a white male adult in his 30s to 40s, with a thin build, approximately 6′ 1″ tall, with bushy dark brown hair that is somewhat long. He was wearing a jacket, possibly letterman-style that contained the color green on it. He is thought to go by the name of Jimmy.

He is associated with an older model (more than 15 years old) 4-door sedan, possibly a Ford. It was dented and gray or dull silver in color.

UPDATE: Sheriff’s office investigating homicide in Oceano

UPDATE (5:13 p.m.) – The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office now confirms that a suspicious death under investigation in Oceano is a homicide.

Sheriff’s officials say they are in the process of notifying the victim’s next of kin. Autopsy results may be available as soon as Friday.

Investigators are expected to be at the scene until late Thursday evening.


 

UPDATE (2:15 p.m.) –   The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says it is investigating a suspicious death in Oceano.

Deputies responded to the 1400 block of Strand Way Thursday after receiving a call at about 9:45 a.m. to check the welfare of someone at the location. Once on scene, they say they found a man dead inside.

At this time, the sheriff’s office is “conducting a full-scale investigation” to determine what happened.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Tony Cipolla says investigators are conducting interviews with neighbors and witnesses and are collecting evidence from the area.
