UPDATE: Police name victim in suspicious death in Proctor

PROCTOR, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont State Police are investigating the suspicious death of Melanie Rooney, 31, that was reported early Saturday, on Market Street in Proctor.

State police were notified of the death just before 5 a.m. Saturday.

Market Street was closed while investigators and the Crime Scene Search Team gathered evidence.

Police say it appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public.

An autopsy is planned for Sunday, at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington to confirm the victim’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.

Police ask that anyone with information that could be relevant to the investigation call the Rutland Barracks at 802-773-9101.

UPDATE: Police make arrest in suspicious death along Rivanna Trail

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) — The Albemarle County Police Department says a man has been arrested in connection with a murder near the Rivanna River on Thursday night.

Forty-nine-year-old Allan Ray Via of Charlottesville was arrested Friday night for the death of 24-year-old Cody Jason Cappel.

Police say Cappel was shot multiple times.

His body was found along the trails near the Rivanna River and Peter Jefferson Parkway on Thursday night.

Police say the two men knew each other and were living in tents along the river.

Via is facing charges of second-degree murder and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

He is currently being held the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail without bond.

UPDATE: Arrest made in College Station murder

COLLEGE STATION, Tex. (KBTX) — UPDATE:
Just after midnight Saturday morning, College Station Police announced 24-year-old Luis Leonardo Solis had been arrested for murder. He was roommates with the victim, Osiel Benitez-Herrera, 30, of College Station. Solis was questioned by police beginning early on in the investigation, and family members insisted to KBTX he was a suspect in the case.

College Station police have identified a man they say is the victim of a homicide.

Police say a man called 9-1-1 around 11:45 p.m. Tuesday night, claiming he found his roommate dead inside their home at a mobile home park located in the 3000 block of Texas Avenue.

UPDATE: Machesney Park man charged with killing 70-year-old mother

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WIFR) — Updated May 6, 2019, 9:05 p.m.

A Machesney Park man is now facing first degree murder charges after his 70-year-old mother is found dead in his apartment.

Kent Stoner, 46, was charged with first degree murder for the death of his mother, Sharon Stoner.

Around 10 a.m. Monday, Winnebago County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a medical assistance call at the Bay View Apartments in the 200 block of Northway Park Road in Machesney Park.

When deputies got into the ground level apartment, they found Sharon of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin dead with what the Winnebago County Coroner described as traumatic injuries.

A Machesney Park man is now facing first degree murder charges… After his 70-year-old mother is found dead in his apartment.

Around 10 a.m. Monday, Winnebago County Sherrif’s deputies responded to a medical assistance call at the Bay View Apartments in the 200 block of Northway Park Road in Machesney Park. When deputies got into the ground level apartment, they found 70-year-old Sharon Stoner of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin dead with what the Winnebago County Coroner describes as traumatic injuries. After interviewing Sharon’s son Kent Stoner, they charged the 46 year old with first degree murder.

UPDATE: Death reported near I-35 bridge in South Austin no longer suspicious, police say – Austin American

11:45 a.m. Monday update: Austin police are no longer considering the death of a person who was found near the Interstate 35 bridge over Williamson Creek in South Austin to be suspicious.

Sunday: A person found dead Sunday afternoon near the Interstate 35 bridge over Williamson Creek in South Austin appeared to have signs of trauma and Austin police are investigating the case as a suspicious death, officials said.

Senior police officer Marcos Johnson said police received a 911 call at 12:06 p.m. reporting an unresponsive person at the 5500 block of south I-35 northbound service road, under the bridge and close to the creek.

Medics found the man and pronounced him dead at the scene, Austin-Travis County EMS said.

“There does appear to be trauma to the body. It does not appear to be flood or water related,” Johnson said.
