A decomposing body of a woman was discovered Monday by city police in a Wales Road apartment and authorities are calling the death suspicious.
The body has been identified as Erin M. Carney, 37, and was found in an apartment in the 400 block of Wales Road NE, according to a police report.
Multiple items were taken into evidence, including a spoon, duct tape, a phone and pajama pants, the report said.
Harry Campbell, chief investigator with the Stark County Coroner’s Office, estimated Carney had been dead between three and four weeks, possibly longer.
The death is “suspicious until we get more answers,” he said.
Campbell was called to the apartment at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
Due to the condition of the body, Campbell said, an initial external examination didn’t tell investigators much about Carney’s death. Decomposition made it difficult to determine if there were signs of trauma, however, Campbell said, it seemed unlikely.
