AUBURN, N.Y. — Auburn police say a 39-year-old man was found dead in a yard Sunday morning, hours after he was involved in a fight.
A passerby found Joshua Taro, of Auburn, lying in the front lawn of 59 N. Fulton St., Auburn police Detective Bryant Bergenstock said.
Auburn police and firefighters were dispatched at 7:28 a.m. for a report of a dead person in the lawn, the detective said. When they arrived, police found Taro had suffered “some injuries consistent with an assault,” Bergenstock said.
Taro’s body was sent to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office for a preliminary autopsy.
A short time later, police learned Taro had been involved in a fight earlier Sunday near Jitz’s Tavern on Franklin Street, Bergenstock said.
Police interviewed witnesses. They also obtained surveillance images, which the detective said “confirmed aspects of the witnesses’ accounts.”
Auburn police say they are investigating Taro’s death as suspicious.
